Hillary Clinton must be incensed about the Palin nomination. Of all the aggravating elements of McCain's bizarre choice, the fact that what Hillary accomplished is being laughed at by the McCain campaign.
Now in full disclosure, I never supported Hillary's candidacy nor did I feel she was particularly qualified to be president. And while she certainly had a certain percentage of her fan base that only existed due to her high estrogen levels (let's be honest, folks), she also put together an amazingly strong organization and competed equally with the boys on the issues and her qualifications. While not the best choice for president in my opinion, I'm man enough to admit she beat every man but one and earned her place on the stage in Denver. No one can take that away from her.
Sure, you can say she only had a shot because her husband was president. Fine. But if her president/spouse had been a woman, then you'd have to say she had a shot only because of that prominence, not her vee-jay-jay specifically.
But then comes Sarah Palin. Obviously her addition to the ticket is nothing more than a cynical ploy to try to steal some Hillary dead-enders. His message seems to be "You wanted a woman? Fine, here you go."
McCain's choice is an insult to all women who have worked to get where they are today. Sarah Palin is the Clarence Thomas of the 2008 presidential race. She is being added to the ticket ONLY because she's a woman. Not in spite of it, not because it's not an important element to consider. But because of it.
Hillary must be pissed to have her achievements mocked in this way. Any woman who has worked her tail off to get where she is must be insanely angry to have this thrown in her face. Like Cindy McCain, who inherited her wealth, these people refuse to work for it, while telling of all of us that programs aimed at giving all of us a fair shot are giving some special advantages.
Like George W. Bush and Dan Quayle before her, Palin is an unqualified, easily manipulated right-wing idealogue who serves a purpose for the moment. One must wonder, could their objective really be to place Palin in a prominent position so she can be the eventual figurehead simpleton to be manipulated by Karl Rove?
Hillary Clinton must be incensed.
